About

Ever wandered around a university campus and thought ‘I wonder what that lecturer does?’, or ‘how do you even work in fashion?’ or even ‘what on earth is sleep therapy?’  Well that is what I have often thought and so I decided why not highlight some of these amazing people who work within the University of Lincoln grounds and allow the lecturers, professors and practitioners to tell you what has lead to them working here at this point in their own words.

The show is called The Lessons Behind the Lectures and will be in the style of a radio four factual human story/ interest show (like Desert Island Discs or Great Lives) with some stylistic elements taken from Radiolab that focuses on some of the lecturers and professors who work within University and unravels why they work in their chosen topic and what they love about it.

The show is in a form of a sit down interview between the presenter (Dave Bussey) and the interviewee. The show’s story will detail each person’s journey from their own days in school, through their career to the point that they are teaching now. This I believe will be an effective way of highlighting each interviewee’s life in a clear manner. Also I enjoy the idea of a simple cycle of going from being the pupil  to the role reversal of now lecturing themselves.

This project I am aiming to create is two 20-40 minute long episodes each featuring a different professional. One of the aims of this project is to create a template that could be easily replicated for future episodes with the eventual goal of it becoming a potential feature of the university itself.

The Lessons Behind The Lectures I truly believe could become a unique selling point for the University of Lincoln for it provides an innovative platform for the staff to pontificate about their own lives and qualifications to a potential audience of new applicants or to add legitimacy to the university brand.
