For the first debut episodes of The Lessons Behind The Lectures podcasts, I wanted them to encompass more than just one school, this is why I was keen to involve one of the social sciences, Clinical Psychology and Todd’s name instantly stood out.
With his background working in multiple high security prisons with disturbed individuals, alongside his academic prowess I thought that it would be a very intriguing listen. I sub-story that I wanted for this episode was that I wanted to see the person working with the patience not the famous patience’s themselves and gain his impression of working in what some would consider a horrible environment.

After moving to the UK in 1985 and worked for eight years as a psychologist in HM Prison Service, mainly specialising on the assessment and treatment of sexual offenders. I then spent a year in the community undertaking sexual offend treatment and a year working with very disturbed adolescents before joining Rampton Hospital in 1995. I was initially Lead Psychologist in develop a specialist service for offenders with personality disorder and from 2001 was Lead Psychologist on the development of The Peaks a specialist unit for offenders with Dangerous and Severe Personality Disorder (DSPD). I have been at the University of Lincoln since 2006 and undertake research on a range of forensic and clinical topics.
Department Responsibilities
Currently I am the Programme Leader for the MSc in Forensic Psychology with the main focus of my teaching related to modules on Forensic Child Psychology, Working with Offenders and Professional Practice and Risk. In addition, I am Programme Leader for the MSc in Healthcare in Secure Environments where I teach the module on Offending and Risk as well as coordinating the Thesis Module. On the undergraduate programme I teach a module related to Risk Analysis mainly within a forensic context.
